Walmart. It will be a good thing! Downtown will be better!

Walmart coming to this area will be a good thing!
We sure need the jobs here. With not having to drive the 2 hours to and from Longview perhaps the citizens will have the time to shop downtown. Speaking of downtown...lets buy out the old vacant building downtown and hire local contractors to refurbish them, Get some business in there. Lets figure out where to park cars so people can actually have a chance to park to do their shopping downtown.
I also would like to see other big stores come to this area. Along with other places to eat. It will be good for jobs and for choices.

Walmart Big Thumbs Up

I agree with you guys. At the very least this will inject some much needed competition to help drive down some prices here. Those buildings downtown? You mean the ones that have been empty for years on commercial? My understanding is that the city could condemn them and all that but would have to take on all the back taxes which are pretty steep. A few years ago there was a willing buyer and at the last minute someone stepped up and payed the back taxes. The family that owns those has been out of the area for quite a few years now. The city is supposed to have a plan but I haven't seen anything yet.

Walmart

We are a divided household on Walmart! I have been in a Walmart a few times, most of the items they have are not the quality I would buy. I prefer to buy a good quality item and keep it for years. Some people prefer to buy inexpensive trendy things that only last one season and they will love Walmart. Walmart will fill a need in our area and I feel keep local dollars in the area and provide needed jobs. Think about it.... some people have their car serviced at their dealership, others go to a quick stop place, some people eat lunch at a fast food drive and others prefer a trendy place downtown. It's what you prefer and can afford. There is no right or wrong; one size does not fit all. Have a good day!

Walmart, I hope it never comes

Your right, we do need more job locally.

Unfortunetly the opening of Walmart will actually reduce the number of local jobs. Sure they'll hire a few people to work the store, but the damage to the local economy will cause more than a few local stores to close or lay off some employees. Not only will there be a net loss of local jobs, but the profit from the store will be funneled back to the branch office, leave the community forever.

So if I have to pay a few more dollars for something, fine.

Loves The Coast

If Walmart is such a good thing then WHY:

Are so many cities in Oregon fighting to keep them out?
Does Walmart pay less taxes per year than I do for my property taxes?

Things to think about.
