what ever happend?
Our 26th president Theodore Roosevelt said “In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”... Why is it that that seems so wrong now days?

Hasn't Changed..Not Wrong
I think it's far more difficult to become a U.S. citizen that it was in Teddy's time. The waiting list for people who have already paid the $700.00 it costs to apply is out the door and around the block...several times. It also runs around $10,000 to hire a lawyer to take you through the legal process. With all of those roadblocks it just takes a very special effort to gain American citizenship, as it should. I think what we have been seeing in the high number of illegal immigrants is a separate issue. Those who crash our boarders, have no intention of becoming citizens and siphon cash out of our economy and keep illegal drugs flowing need to be stopped.
