Posted by:WOMFING TOM Rating 10 10 `Helper`49% voter turn out and boy did people ever turn out for Patricia Roberts! 59% voted against the recall effort that was once again fueled by anti-LNG groups and a desire on the part of some to make a living as political activists in our community.
A note too on the Sierra Club.
I heard from some of you regarding my last rant on naughty non-profits that the Sierra Club is not a non-profit. Actually they are. They just aren't a 501(c)3 non-profit. They lost that status in the 60's over political actions the group took to oppose industrial projects. They established the Sierra Foundation as a 501(c)3 and transitioned Sierra Clubs to 501(c)4 non-profit status which allows for political activities. The Oregon Sierra Club states it is a non-profit on it's website (several times) they just don't tell you what kind they are. Contributions to 501(c)4 non-profits are not tax deductible.

A 59% majority in a 49% voter turn-out election.....Hmmmmmmm!
Kind of a pointless execise except for one thing....the citizen/voter can indeed have the ultimate power to determine who serves in their trust and that is as it should be and, they did decide that in every case.
Except for one little thing

The weakness in this, in our community, is we leave the selection of the replacement, of those that have failed to maintain that "Public Trust", to the same "Public Servants" rather than to the particular constituents an elected or appointed individual represents.... "The Foxes" overseeing "The Foxes"
Actually only 20% against Pat

Considering that approximately 800 people voted for the recall when close to 4000 ballots were sent out, that says that only about 20% of Patricia's district wanted her recalled. Anyone who didn't like her would have made sure to get their ballot in, don't you think? To the contrary, the people who either thought the recall was completely wrong or believe (correctly) that Pat is doing a good job, got the vote out.
The other half of the district obviously just didn't care either way.

The fact "Callie" is 28% of Roberts' District-5 constituency voted for her and when one thinks about it, that says a lot about her priorities in who she actually serves in my view.
The Problem With "Keepers"?
